Annoying side effect of the MSIE / Eolas lawsuit

Microsoft issued an update to MSIE which disables ActiveX controls until you click "ok" to activate them, due to their reticence to pay Eolas a license fee after losing a patent lawsuit.

Microsoft has apparently implemented this by causing any instance of the <object>tag to be treated as an ActiveX object, including using object to add images to a page. In the last redesign of this site I used <object> to embed some PNG versions of the standard feed icon...I guess I will switch these back to <img> tags.

I think the Eolas patent is bogus, as is Microsoft's temper-tantrum workaround of it.

Not to mention putting an extra step between already-ADD-ridden surfers and viewing an embedded QT vid. There's a java workaround though: http://developer.apple.com/internet/ieembedprep.html Just another of the 1,000's of reasons to dump IE.
