Edward Costello was IBM's first corporate webmaster,
serving in that position from 1994 through 1999.
Over five years he managed technology operations for www.ibm.com,
played various roles in IBM's Olympic Games web sites as well as other
special event web sites managed by IBM.
The Corporate Webmaster was a sort of proto-CTO position, responsible for technology operations of www.ibm.com, technology management across IBM's web sites, and advice and consulting to IBM senior management about Internet trends and technology.
In addition to technology operations, he was responsible for developing technology strategy for IBM's world wide web presence.
In 1999, Edward Costello left ibm.com to take on managing the web site for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
Edward Costello left IBM in 2001 to pursue consulting opportunities, walk his dogs, and generally downshift for several years.
